The Vanderburgh County Health Department is offering children's flu vaccines free of charge at the health department, located at 420 Mulberry Street. Flu vaccines are offered on a walk-in basis as follows: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Friday, 8am to 11am, and 1pm to 3pm. Alternate times are Tuesdays from 10am to 1pm, and 3pm to 5pm. These vaccines are for children from six months of age through eighteen years of age.
According to Health Officer Dr. Ray Nicholson, flu vaccines are safe and effective, and receiving an annual flu vaccine is the single most effective method to prevent the spread of the flu.
For more information about flu vaccines, please contact your child's healthcare provider or the health department at 812-435-5692, or visit the website at www.vanderburghgov.org/health.

NTI Receives a Grant for Outdoor Lab and Natural Area
Mr. Doug Johnson recently received a $750 grant from Ms. Amy Walker and the Public Education Foundation to be spent on our new outdoor lab and natural area. The outdoor lab and natural area will have two major parts. One part will be left to grow without human intervention. A second part will grow naturally, but we will plant locally adapted wild plants that would be the plants we would find were such an area left to grow without invasive species. Additionally, in this area we will remove any invasive plants (such as Johnson grass) that we find growing. A diversity survey will be conducted each year on each part of the Outdoor Lab, and the results compared, not only to the two parts of the lab but also to parts of the grounds that continue to be mowed. Finally, signage will be erected to identify the area as an Outdoor Lab/Natural Area.
